The City of Denton Fire Department has taken a significant step towards sustainability by putting the state's first Pierce Enforcer Volterra Pumper into service. This advanced fire apparatus features a state-of-the-art parallel-electric drivetrain, promoting zero emissions during both driving and pumping operations. The initiative positions Denton at the cutting edge of eco-friendly firefighting technologies, showcasing a commitment to environmental stewardship within the community.
In an expression of this progressive move, Fire Chief Hedges stated, per the City of Denton Fire Department, “We are proud to be at the forefront of this movement, leading by example in the pursuit of sustainability, and improve safety for our firefighters.” The assertion by Chief Hedges underscores the department’s dual focus on ecological responsibility and the welfare of its personnel. Residents who are eager to catch a glimpse of the new engine can do so at the Arts & Autos event on the square, where Engine 1 will be on display from 10-11 am.
The Pierce Volterra Pumper's innovative design allows it to operate in EV mode for pumping or driving without generating emissions while retaining the capability to switch to a traditional internal combustion engine if needed.
