Denver's streets witnessed an unexpected halt on August 23, when a motorist's attempt to rev up his day led to a more sobering encounter with law enforcement. The Denver Police Department reported that officers from District 6, while patrolling the area of 19th and Market Streets, were drawn to the scene by the sound of a car engine backfiring repeatedly.
As fate would have it, the suspect vehicle was caught in the vise of rush-hour traffic, providing no escape for the driver. Upon the approach of law enforcement, it became apparent that the driver was showing signs of intoxication, unable to blend with the anonymity of passing cars. "Officers located the described vehicle stopped in traffic with no way to evade them," the Denver Police Department detailed in their social media post.
The encounter resulted in the arrest of the adult male suspect, who now faces multiple charges. According to the Denver Police Department, the suspect was arrested for investigation of driving under the influence, investigation of possession of a firearm while intoxicated, and disturbing the peace. The incident culminated with the impounding of the vehicle and the recovery of a handgun.
