Northbound I-75 in Detroit will be closed from Schaefer Road to Clark Avenue starting at 9 p.m. on Friday until 5 a.m. on October 6. The closure is for bridge work along that section of the highway, according to the Michigan Department of Transportation.

The Michigan Department of Transportation will close four bridges, including the I-75 Rouge River Bridge, to apply a protective surface and epoxy overlay. Northbound traffic will be detoured to I-275, I-94, and I-96, while local traffic can use M-85 (Fort Street). Governor Gretchen Whitmer said, “Across Michigan, we are moving dirt and fixing the damn roads to grow our economy, helping Michiganders go to work, drop their kids off at school and run errands safely,” and added, “By the end of this construction season, we will have fixed, repaired or replaced nearly 24,500 lane miles of roads and 1,900 bridges, supporting thousands of good-paying, local jobs without raising taxes by a dime.”

The Michigan Department of Transportation is continuing a $42 million bridge repair project that started in late April, involving short-term closures for pier patching on 230 piers. This weekend is the 8 of 16 scheduled closures. The project is expected to support about 401 jobs, and drivers can find updates and detour information on the Michigan Department of Transportation website.
