The Center for Sacramento History is swinging open its vault doors wide on October 4 for the 15th Annual Sacramento Archives Crawl. From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., the public is welcome to absolutely free access to special collections and a chance to delve into Sacramento's rich history, according to the Sacramento City Express.

This annual event is more than just a stroll through dusty shelves; it's a full-blown celebration of National Archives Month. Visitors are looking to get a rare peek behind the velvet curtain of the past, with exhibits ranging from vintage jazz fest memorabilia to the technical nuances of record pressing. "The Center for Sacramento History archivist team looks forward to this event each year as we want to bring people together to explore the Sacramento region’s history through primary sources and connect with the community,” City Archivist Sabrina Holecko told the Sacramento City Express.

The Archives Crawl takes place at four downtown Sacramento spots: the California State Archives, State Library, Center for Sacramento History, and Sacramento Room at the Public Library. Each location offers a different piece of history. Free buses will help you get to all of them, and if you collect all the stamps on your Archives Crawl passport, you could win a prize, as detailed by the Sacramento City Express.

A special treat at the Center for Sacramento History includes behind-the-scenes tours of the collection vault and a featured exhibit focusing on the Brandt Recording Studio. Attendees are also set to enjoy the melodies of a youth jazz band TNT, painting an auditory backdrop to a rich visual history. According to the Sacramento City Express, an exhibit on the Sacramento Jazz Jubilee's heyday will showcase "photos, posters, artifacts, and archival film footage."
