The streets of Doral were alive with energy last Tuesday as Miami Dade College (MDC) West Campus and the local community banded together to celebrate I AM MDC Day. According to the City of Doral, the annual parade marks the 65th anniversary of an institution that's been a staple in the lives of over two and a half million students.
The festivities kicked off at Doral Central Park, symbolizing a new chapter for the event in its third year in the city. It ended on a high note at the MDC West Campus. The parade route was a spectacle of cheers and music, as students and residents showed their school spirit. Mayor Christi Fraga, herself an alumna of MDC, was notably present. In a statement obtained by the city's website, she shared, "Doral is honored to celebrate this milestone with Miami Dade College. Having once walked those same halls, it is deeply meaningful for me to see our students, alumni, and community join together to commemorate MDC’s 65th anniversary. Holding it in the newly opened Doral Central Park made the occasion even more special—a perfect backdrop to honor education, community spirit, and the vibrant energy that makes Doral truly unique.”
MDC is renowned for being the most diverse educational institution in the United States, welcoming students from 167 countries and catering to various languages. Since opening its doors in Doral in 2006, the West Campus has seen explosive growth, going from an initial 150 students to hosting over 14,000 annually. The event also served to raise vital funds for future student scholarships.
