Early Thursday morning, a driver was shot during a road-rage incident on I-240 in Oklahoma City, sparking an investigation by local authorities. The shooting occurred around 7:35 a.m., involving two vehicles, one being a TruGreen pickup truck. The truck sustained gunfire, resulting in the driver being hit in the leg, as confirmed by KOCO. Despite lanes of I-240 being blocked for investigation, the driver was later reported to have superficial wounds and was in stable condition after receiving hospital treatment.
According to the Oklahoma City Police Department, a passenger inside the TruGreen truck was found not injured, while the driver suffered non-life-threatening injuries. As reported by News9, the suspect fled the scene and has yet to be apprehended. The incident raises concerns about the frequent occurrence of road rage on the highways, adding unnecessary danger to everyday commuters.
Sgt. Jon Skuta of the Oklahoma City Police remarked on the roadside dangers in an interview stating, "Nothing is worth having an argument via vehicles. It's a very dangerous situation, and really, nothing calls for someone discharging a weapon at another moving vehicle on the highway. You put many lives at risk." This statement, obtained by OKC FOX, echoes the broader concerns regarding incidents of road rage that have become all too familiar on today’s roads. No names have yet been released regarding those involved in the incident, and with the alleged shooter still at large, both the authorities and community remain on alert.
