On the afternoon of September 23, tragedy narrowly skirted two pedestrians on the quiet arc of West Skyline Parkway in Duluth. A vehicle, reportedly traveling with no concern for human cargo sharing its path, collided with a 58-year-old woman and a 74-year-old man. The Duluth Police Department reported the incident occurred around 4 pm, and the victims, though struck with cruel caprice, sustained only non-life-threatening injuries.
Our streets, meant to be channels of movement, fellowship, and commerce, were briefly transformed into a tableau of pain and negligence. The victims were rushed to a local hospital by Mayo Ambulance to quickly receive the urgent care needed to mend battered bones and ruptured skin. The driver, on the other hand, chose to depart the scene – a decision that inevitably came to haunt him shortly after. Police located the escape vehicle, and with it, a 68-year-old male suspect who now occupies a bed at a local hospital. His future, once clear of medical hold, is to be tethered to the consequences awaiting him at the St. Louis County Jail.
According to the authorities, there are no signs of impairment in the suspect, and he will face charges of Criminal Vehicular Operation.
