In a turn of events following a recent carjacking incident, Enrico Jerome Farrington Jr., a 34-year-old Durham resident, has been charged with identity theft in addition to his initial offenses. Last week, during an arrest related to an armed carjacking, Farrington gave authorities his sibling's information, a move that has now led to further legal trouble.
According to a previous release from the Durham County Sheriff’s Office, the carjacking took place on September 3, when Farrington allegedly pulled a knife on a driver after asking for a ride and then proceeded to flee in the stolen vehicle. The Durham County Sheriff's Office was to quickly apprehend Farrington soon after locating the victim's vehicle.
The slip-up with false identification came to light after alert family members spotted the incorrect details in a news article and notified authorities. The Durham County Sheriff's Office (DCSO), in partnership with the local District Attorney's Office, quickly moved to rectify the misinformation and filed additional warrants for Farrington's arrest.
Now held at the Durham County Detention Facility, Farrington's bond has been set at $235,000. The new charges he faces include identity theft and resisting, delaying, or obstructing an officer. This adds to the list of charges from the carjacking incident which, according to the DCSO, comprise felony possession of cocaine, larceny of a motor vehicle, robbery with a dangerous weapon, misdemeanor larceny, and resisting a public officer.
The initial arrest of Farrington was the result of a timely response by deputies to the scene of the carjacking, as reported by the DCSO. Once the suspect had taken off with the victim's Infiniti SUV, they managed to locate it and apprehend Farrington, who had run into a nearby residence, without further issue. As the investigation continues, Farrington remains under custody with multiple failures to appear on previous arrests also noted in his record.
