An Edmond man, Kenneth Lynch, age 45, has been sentenced to 30 years in federal prison for committing sexual exploitation of a child; this decision was announced by U.S. Attorney Robert J. Troester, as detailed in a press release from the Department of Justice.
Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) agents, sifting through the depths of the dark web in October 2024, stumbled upon images of child sexual abuse material (CSAM), which led them to a minor victim who later recounted the abuse at the hands of Lynch, Lynch, who was subsequently taken into custody on January 16, was found to possess CSAM images on his phone, these same images having initiated the inquiry. According to the Department of Justice press release, U.S. Attorney, "Through manipulation and coercion, this defendant engaged in abhorrent acts of child exploitation, concealed his crimes in secrecy, and shared his abuse across the dark web," underscoring the gravity of the offenses and the extensive harm inflicted upon the victim.
Lynch was charged on February 20 by a federal Grand Jury, and on May 7, he pleaded guilty, admitting to using a minor to create sexually explicit content. The sentencing hearing was on September 18 — U.S. District Judge Joe Heaton condemned Lynch to 360 months in prison, tacking on 10 years of supervised release, and Lynch is also required to pay $32,300 in restitution, the court declaring society's intolerance for such exploitation toward children, coupled with an intention to deter others from engaging in similar conduct was evident in the harsh sentence given.
This case serves as a part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide DOJ initiative; as Travis Pickard, Homeland Security Investigations Dallas Special Agent in Charge, stated, "Working closely with our law enforcement partners and leveraging our expertise in investigating sophisticated criminal activity on the dark web, our special agents were able to quickly identify Mr. Lynch and remove him from the community to ensure he is no longer a threat to our children." The investigation, a collaborative effort between HSI and the Edmond Police Department, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Jordan Ganz prosecuting, underscores the ongoing commitment to shielding children from online predators and delivering justice for victims of exploitation.
