El Paso Community College (EPCC) recently opened its doors to local counselors and advisors during the 4th annual EPCC EXPO at the Mission del Paso campus. The day-long event is packed with presentations on EPCC's offerings, from academic programs to student services, aiming to equip these educators with the latest information to support their students' post-secondary paths.
At this year's EXPO, attendees were able to thoroughly explore the variety of resources EPCC has to offer, including financial aid guidance and details about innovative learning programs. "Our numbers are back to pre-covid years, and we're so happy for that," Dr. Cassandra Lachica-Chavez told EPCC News. The expo clearly demonstrates EPCC's commitment to collaboration with Region 19 and its joint efforts to boost student enrollment, especially through Dual Credit and Early College High School (ECHS) programs.
Miguel Carrera, a counselor at Hanks Early College High School, stressed the importance of such events. "I like this event because you get information from several offices, and it's so important for us, especially me as a counselor," Carrera said, as per EPCC News. He underscored the value of staying current on EPCC’s offerings and how crucial it is during the October rush for financial aid and FAFSA applications.
With growth spurring on the east side of town, partnerships between community colleges and public schools are increasingly crucial. "We are a community college, and with the growth that's happening here on the east side of town, our partnerships with ECHS and P-TECHs are growing," Dr. Jose Pacheco, Dean of Art, Math, and Science at Mission del Paso, as obtained by EPCC News. The expo served not just to inform, but also to showcase the campus to individuals who may not have had the opportunity to visit before, highlighting the facilities and student success initiatives that EPCC prides itself on.
