In El Paso County, science and the pursuit of justice blend seamlessly, particularly this week as the local community celebrates National Forensic Science Week. El Paso County Sheriff Oscar Ugarte took to social media to honor the occasion, commending his forensic science team for their unwavering dedication. In a Facebook post, Ugarte expressed gratitude towards the crime scene investigators, latent print examiners, forensic examiners, and forensic scientists who form the backbone of El Paso County's pursuit of forensic truth.
"We thank our incredible Forensic Science team—including crime scene investigators, latent print examiners, forensic examiners, and forensic scientists—for their dedication, professionalism, and commitment to ensuring justice through science," as stated by El Paso County Sheriff Oscar Ugarte. This special week is being celebrated following a resolution sponsored by Commissioner Jackie Butler, which received firm support from the El Paso County Commissioners Court. The resolution designates September 20–26 as Forensic Science Week in El Paso County, acknowledging the vital role forensic science plays in the criminal justice system.
The work that these forensic professionals do often goes unnoticed by the public, eclipsed by the sensational stories that crime often breeds. Nonetheless, their meticulous efforts are critical in piecing together the silent narratives left behind by criminals. In recognition of their toil, the El Paso County Commissioners Court not only endorsed the resolution but also amplified the importance of the field in a weeklong acknowledgment.
