Over the weekend, El Paso County Sheriff's deputies arrested following a disturbance call in Canutillo. As reported by KFOX-TV, upon their arrival in the 7100 block of Kayla Drive on Friday, authorities encountered 29-year-old Angel Geovanny Martinez. Martinez was wanted for Assault on a Pregnant Person and subsequently resisted arrest.
During the confrontation, Martinez allegedly ignored, "repeated loud verbal commands" from the deputies and physically resisted their attempts to take him into custody, according to KTSM. The deputies were eventually able to gain control and arrest Martinez after a brief struggle. Martinez has been booked into the El Paso County Jail with bonds totaling $27,500 for the assault charge and for resisting arrest, search, or transport.
KVIA reports that the initial arrest warrant for Martinez cited an assault on a pregnant person, an incident entirely separate from this weekend's event. When deputies approached Martinez, his reaction only added to his legal troubles, resulting in an additional charge for resisting the arrest process. The bonds are set at $25,000 for the assault charge and, $2,500 for resisting arrest, search, or transport.
