In a move meant to cultivate the next generation of law enforcement professionals, the El Paso County Sheriff's Office has kicked off the second year of its Mentoring Our Future Program, according to a social media post by El Paso County Sheriff Oscar Ugarte. This initiative pairs law enforcement officials, from deputies to detention officers and even specialized units, with students committed to pursuing a future in criminal justice. The goal is to offer them a window into what lies ahead in their professional journey.
The Mentoring Our Future Program seeks to do more than just prepare aspiring public safety workers; it aims to forge deeper bonds between law enforcement and the surrounding community. Engaging directly with local families, educators, and students, "the program connects Sheriff’s Deputies, Detention Officers, and specialized units with students enrolled in local criminal justice programs, offering mentorship, guidance, and real-world insight into law enforcement careers," as posted by El Paso County Sheriff Oscar Ugarte.
Ugarte's announcement on Facebook reflects an optimistic view of the program's impact. The Sheriff suggested that the effort will not only present career paths but also foster a spirit of trust and collaboration among the various pillars of the El Paso community. These connections, according to officials, are crucial in building an environment where public safety is viewed as a shared responsibility.
