Tracy Wright, a resident, was taken into police custody on charges including Discharge of a Firearm in Certain Municipalities and False Alarm or Report, following a 911 call and subsequent police response at his home. Police dispatch received a call at approximately 08:27 am yesterday, where Wright claimed individuals were attempting to break into his residence. As per the official press release from the City of El Paso, officers on scene heard gunshots from inside the home upon their arrival.
Wright had indicated to responding officers that he opened fire after his nephew, along with others, broke into his house. The investigation, which escalated resources to include SWAT, the Crisis Management Team, and the Crisis Intervention Team, painted a contrasting scenario. It was ascertained that Wright had actually fired a shotgun through the walls of his dwelling when, in fact, no one was present and attempting to break in. His nephew was confirmed to be out of town during the incident.
The quick escalation to a high-alert situation necessitated a precautionary and tactical police entry, during which they recovered two shotguns and a pistol from Wright's residence. Following the gathering of evidence and concluding their on-site investigation, authorities determined the reported home invasion to be a falsehood concocted by Wright. He was subsequently detained and processed at the El Paso County Detention Facility.
