The City of El Paso has recently celebrated a significant win for its tourism and economy with the help of a back-to-back Coldplay concert hosted by The University of Texas at El Paso. Taking place on June 13 and 14 at Sun Bowl Stadium, the event saw a surge in local spending to the tune of $34.7 million, a notable 21.2% increase from the previous year.

Attributed to this uptick in economic activity is an additional $6.08 million across businesses, with hotels and attractions included, as per the report by Destination El Paso. UTEP President Heather Wilson, in response to the economic boost, expressed pride in the team that orchestrated the successful event and highlighted the University's dedication to impacting the community's culture and economy. According to Wilson in the provided statement, "This set a new record for us and I'm really proud of the team that worked so hard to bring Coldplay to El Paso. El Paso deserves great events like this and we want to do more of them," as per UTEP Newsfeed.

Jorge Vazquez, who serves as the executive director of Special Events at UTEP, indicated that investments in facilities to attract more large-scale events are justified by the economic benefits they generate for both the university and the greater El Paso community. The concerts attracted a substantial turnout, with daily visits ranging between 59,700 and 89,500. Particularly impressive, 13.4% of the concertgoers were out-of-state visitors, underscoring the event's wide-reaching appeal.

In terms of demographics, nearly half of the attendees were aged between 25 and 44 years old, and a significant chunk of the audience reported high household income levels. Not just a triumph in attendance, the event's impact was palpable in visitor spending, with Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona representing the largest home states of the audience. The main areas of expenditure were across grocery and department stores, dining and nightlife, and specialty retail, bringing economic boon to various sectors of the local market.

Moving beyond economic numbers, El Paso Mayor Renard Johnson spoke to the community's unified efforts, which made these concerts more than just a music event. Mayor Johnson told UTEP Newsfeed, "The success of the Coldplay concerts is a true reflection of what happens when our community comes together. UTEP’s leadership was key in securing this world-class act for El Paso, and we are deeply grateful for their role in making it possible." The concerts have cemented El Paso's position as a key player on the global stage of world-class events and tourism.
