Elliot Park in downtown Minneapolis is undergoing a $2.1 million transformation, with the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board (MPRB) and the Elliot Park Neighborhood, Inc. (EPNI) leading the project. According to MPRB’s official bulletin, residents gathered to celebrate the groundbreaking of renovations aimed at improving the park’s east side.
The 6.5-acre park sits near homes, businesses, North Central University, and Hennepin County Medical Center. Plans include a central lawn for events, a new playground near the recreation center, a sports plaza, a splash pad, and safety upgrades with better visibility and access.
“The project at Elliot Park is part of broader effort by MPRB to increase activities and events at downtown parks,” Superintendent Al Bangoura said during the groundbreaking, according to MPRB's bulletin. Construction will close the east side of the park through the fall and continue into the spring, with completion scheduled for 2026.
The Elliot Recreation Center remains open and continues to offer programs and activities, many geared toward youth. The park’s athletic field and skatepark are not affected by construction. Program details are available on the MPRB bulletin.
