The Environmental Protection Agency is providing $337 million to support North Carolina's water system recovery following Hurricane Helene. Queen City News reports that over $276 million of this funding will go toward strengthening water infrastructure under Title VI of the Clean Water Act, including repairs and improvements to better withstand future storms.

The state’s Clean Water Safe Revolving Fund will receive more than $253 million for affordable water treatment projects, including low-interest or forgivable loans. WCNC reports that an additional $22.5 million is allocated to a new fund to support septic systems and expand wastewater services for residents relying on septic tanks.

The EPA is also providing $61 million through the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act to manage debris, inspect for contamination, restore damaged waste facilities, and improve hurricane response. WSOC-TV reports that EPA Regional Administrator Kevin McOmber emphasized the importance of these funds in supporting recovery and resilience.
