A 20-year-old man from Euclid has succumbed to injuries following a shooting incident near an apartment complex in Willoughby on Monday. Damonte K. Perry was declared dead at University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center yesterday, as confirmed by the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s Office. The Cleveland 19 first reported that Perry was transported from the 1330 block of Fox Run Dr. by Willoughby EMS and subsequently airlifted to the hospital.
Willoughby police, with support from surrounding law enforcement agencies, were called to the scene shortly before 4 p.m. on Monday. It was soon discovered that Perry had been shot near the Hamlet's apartment complex. According to Cleveland.com, Perry has been undergoing treatment since Tuesday following the critical injuries sustained during the incident. Efforts to quickly airlift Perry to a medical facility where he could receive more advanced care were detailed by WKYC.
The Willoughby Police Department hasn't released any details about a potential motive for the shooting. However, a male suspect was apprehended in the vicinity approximately two and a half hours after the incident took place, although his identity still remains undisclosed to the public.
The case, now being treated as a suspected homicide, remains under investigation by the Willoughby police, who provided the initial response to the reports of gunfire.
