A joint operational effort by the Winthrop, Everett, and Revere Police Departments has culminated in the charges against a man accused of being deeply entrenched in the local drug trade. Following a dedicated investigation spanning almost two months, authorities moved in on Friday, Sept. 26, with search and arrest warrants for both an Everett address and its occupant.
Identified as Michael Diaz, a 22-year-old resident of Everett, the suspect now faces multiple serious charges. These include, possession with intent to distribute a Class B Substance (Crack Cocaine), possession with intent to distribute a Class A Substance (Fentanyl), and trafficking both substances in quantities exceeding 36 grams. Diaz, who has had prior entanglements with law enforcement, was also apprehended on the strength of five outstanding warrants from East Boston District Court.
According to the Winthrop Public Safety's release, efforts to serve the warrants resulted in a brief attempt to flee by Diaz using a vehicle, but the situation was swiftly contained, and he was detained without further incidents or injuries.
Search operations following Diaz's arrest led to the seizure of over 36 grams of crack cocaine and fentanyl respectively. Details regarding the seized substances and the allegations against Diaz were outlined in the police report, reminding the public that these charges are merely accusations, with the defendant's innocence sustained until, and unless, a court of law determines otherwise. Diaz was held to face arraignment, which was set for the subsequent Monday in East Boston District Court.
