Marin County drivers should brace for some congestion this week as Caltrans embarks on lane closures amid maintenance efforts on State Route 37. Announced as part of its Capital Preventive Maintenance project, drivers will find one lane closed on both the eastbound and westbound stretches of SR-37 near Novato for essential concrete barrier transition work. According to Caltrans, the work is scheduled to take place from Wednesday, Sept. 3, through Friday, Sept. 5, with closures on eastbound lanes from 4 a.m. to 1 p.m., and on the westbound side from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
While ensuring the smooth operation of this thoroughfare, these necessary interruptions come with a caveat: all scheduled construction is subject to the whims of the weather, a detail not to be overlooked by the daily commuters who transition between counties with the expectation of sailing across a reliable infrastructure. This stretch of SR-37, running about three miles from the Ignacio overhead to the Petaluma River Bridge, will experience grinding and re-paving.
Caltrans cautions motorists to drive carefully through the affected zones. "Please drive with caution. Slow for the Cone Zone and Be Work Zone Alert," the agency beseeched, to protect both those behind the wheel and the workers on the ground.
