Raleigh's Falls Lake is hosting a Guided Paddle Day, and it's calling all locals who hunger for a splash of adventure. The lake, engineered in the 1970s to serve the dual purpose of flood control and water reservoir, now plays backdrop to Forest Ridge Park. This park, sprawling across a 586-acre peninsula, offers nature enthusiasts a rich mingle of waterfront vistas and verdant trails, according to the City of Raleigh's announcement.
Raleigh Parks and Recreation is offering a paddling event on October 18 at Falls Lake, departing from the Anne Gordon Active Adult Center. Participants can choose to kayak, paddleboard, or pair up, with staff available to provide basic instruction.
After the tutorial, paddlers will follow the lake’s shoreline and can have a self-supplied picnic on the beach. The trip runs from 10:15 a.m. to 3 p.m. and costs $15 per person.
Registration is required through the Active Adult Yearly Trip Registration and can be completed at any of Raleigh’s Active Adult Centers, including Five Points, Walnut Terrace, and Anne Gordon. More information is available on the Raleigh Parks and Recreation website.
