In the pre-dawn quiet of Fairfield, an attempted theft was thwarted thanks to the attentiveness of a San Clemente Street resident. The Fairfield Police Department reported that officers responded to a call at approximately 4:41 am on the 1800 block when a local was alerted by the clamor of someone attempting to make off with their trailer.
The arriving officers found an unoccupied, idling pickup truck still coupled to the stolen trailer. This vehicle bore plates that traced back to a residence in Woodland, CA, prompting law enforcement to seek confirmation on whether the truck had been illicitly appropriated. Meanwhile, as the Woodland Police Department checked in with the truck’s registered owner, Fairfield officers noticed a man trying to make a less-than-stealthy escape into a backyard on San Anselmo Street.
The suspect was apprehended shortly thereafter. Identified as 37-year-old Nickolas Ebling, he was detained without a struggle, the Fairfield Police Department stated on social media. Upon confirmation that the truck was indeed stolen—a fact previously unreported by its owner—Ebling was arrested.
His alleged intent to abscond with not one but two vehicles backfired spectacularly, leading to multiple charges against him, including vehicle theft, possession of burglary tools, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
