A devastating collision early this morning resulted in the loss of life and the closure of part of northbound Interstate 5, Sacramento officials reported. The incident, which occurred near the Sutterville Road exit in the Upper Land Park neighborhood, involved a disabled pickup truck and a tractor-trailer, according to the California Highway Patrol notification.
The driver of the pickup tragically lost their life during the crash, authorities declared. As per a statement obtained by ABC10, the collision prompted a significant law enforcement and emergency response presence, disrupting traffic for an extended period. Southbound lanes, while previously affected, have since reopened to the public.
The crash was first reported to the CHP around 7:13 a.m., and emergency services were promptly dispatched to the site, as per KCRA. It is yet unclear what caused the tractor-trailer to collide with the disabled vehicle, but CHP indicates that the investigation will continue in an effort to ascertain the events leading to the fatal outcome.
