
Early this morning, tragedy unfolded on US-27 in Lake County, resulting in one fatality and severe injuries to another individual. According to a report from ClickOrlando, around 1:54 AM near Frank Jarrell Road, a 2019 Audi Q5, operated by a 22-year-old man from Windermere, began to erroneously drive south in the northbound lane at a high rate of speed. This action precipitated a head-on collision with a 2021 Toyota Camry, steered by a 28-year-old Orlando man.
The violent impact of the crash was recounted by a witness, who described the Audi's high-speed, wrong-way movement moments before the collision. The driver of the Toyota Camry succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, while the driver of the Audi was transported with serious injuries to ORMC. The aftermath of the incident led to the closure of all lanes on US-27 South, as stated in a release by WFTV.
The Florida Highway Patrol is currently heading the ongoing investigation into the crash, meticulously piecing together the events that led to this fatal outcome. The Lake County Sheriff’s Office has been actively notifying the public via social media about traffic disruptions and road closures engendered by the accident.
