A 17-year-old boy was killed and two other children, a 13-year-old boy and a 12-year-old girl, were critically injured in a shooting on Thursday morning in Port Huron. The incident happened at Glenview Gardens Apartments in the 2000 block of Glenview Court, according to WXYZ.
The Port Huron Police Department said a 44-year-old man, identified as the father of the victims, was taken into custody without incident. Early reports state that a 20-year-old son and the children’s mother intervened, disarmed the father, and stopped the attack, as reported by FOX 2 Detroit. The two surviving children were treated at the scene before being taken to Detroit-area hospitals, where they remain in critical but stable condition. Port Huron Police were called to the scene around 6:10 a.m. on Thursday. The children’s father was arrested and gave information about the events leading to the shooting. Police said they plan to pursue criminal charges, and the investigation is ongoing, as noted by ClickOnDetroit.
Port Huron Schools Superintendent Theo Kerhoulas and Holland Woods Middle School Principal Jillian Bertich informed families that “We are deeply saddened to share that three of our students were injured during the incident. Tragically, one has passed (17 year old male) and the other two (13 and 12) are currently hospitalized in critical but stable condition,” as mentioned by WXYZ. Support teams have been made available for students, and police are asking anyone with information to call 810-984-8415.
