Public records have shed new light on a violent episode that took place last month. Body-worn camera footage has been released by the Las Vegas Metro Police Department, showing the arrest of Marselles Brown, the father of NBA star Jaylen Brown.
According to FOX5 Vegas, the incident unfolded at All American Park where Marselles Brown is accused of stabbing a man following a parking dispute. The victim, having been allegedly stabbed in the stomach, sought refuge in a drugstore before being transported to a hospital. Officers arrested Brown on the side of the I-11, in cuffs, after instructing him to exit his car with his hands raised.
The arrest video, which was partially censored but included audio, depicted the moments leading up to Marselles Brown's detainment. As reported by 8 News Now, officers pulled over a dark-colored SUV on U.S. 95. They retrieved a woman and two children from the vehicle, one of the children crying during the ordeal, and ordered Brown to walk backwards towards them.
In a statement obtained by FOX5 Vegas, Brown's wife claimed that the altercation began when another man accused Brown of hitting his car door, which prompted a series of escalating events. Despite having abrasions and bleeding from his face, Marselles Brown refused medical treatment. An officer at the scene speculated about possible charges ranging from battery to attempted murder, depending on the severity of the victim's injuries.
Marselles Brown stands charged with attempted murder using a deadly weapon, among other charges. Having posted bail, he missed his preliminary hearing last Tuesday. A prior arrest in 2016 for battery resulting in substantial bodily harm is also on Brown's record, painting a complex picture of the former heavyweight champion boxer's brushes with the law.
As for his son, Jaylen Brown has reportedly helped the Boston Celtics secure a championship in 2024 and is not implicated in the events involving his father. The case continues to evolve, with Marselles Brown expected back in court on October 22 for a preliminary hearing.
