A significant blaze erupted in Seattle's Northgate neighborhood, demanding the swift response of nearly a hundred firefighters. On September 6, the Seattle Fire Department was alerted to the fire at an intersection known to the community as 1st Ave. NE and NE 112th St, as reported on the Seattle Fire Line. A vacant apartment building had caught fire, triggering 911 calls as early as 2:46 p.m. that afternoon.
The first responders on the scene shared a working fire, with Engine 31 leading the initial charge against the flames. As the situation escalated, it became clear that additional help would be needed, leading Battalion Chief 6 to announce the incident as a 2-alarm fire by 2:59 p.m. According to the details relayed by the Seattle Fire Line, the coordinated efforts bore fruit when the fire was brought under control at around 3:28 p.m., and by 3:32 p.m., it had been completely extinguished, with no injuries reported.
The comprehensive response included a deployment consisting of eleven engines, six ladder trucks, and Rescue Company 1, along with various support and command staff. In total, approximately 92 firefighters were on scene to tackle the emergency.
The Seattle Fire Department is investigating the cause of the Northgate fire. With the flames out and the area now safe, officials are working to find out how it started to help prevent it from happening again.
