Chaos unfolded on Florida’s Turnpike in Orlando last night when a multi-vehicle collision sent a state trooper to the hospital with minor injuries. The complex crash started just before 5:30 p.m. in the northbound lanes near State Road 417, involving a semi-truck, a Toyota Camry, and a Dodge pickup, among others. The Florida Highway Patrol recounted to ClickOrlando that the incident began with the semi attempting a lane change and sideswiping the Camry.
The havoc escalated when a Dodge pickup, traveling behind, swerved to avoid the initial collision but ended up striking the semi and the Camry, causing the Dodge to overturn. It veered across the highway and collided with an unoccupied FHP patrol vehicle parked on the roadside. "When the crashes occurred, our trooper was standing outside of his patrol car," the release reads. "He darted away, briefly fell, and was later transported to the hospital with minor injuries," this detail provided by the FHP to ClickOrlando.
FHP informed FOX 35 Orlando that the driver of the Dodge also sustained minor injuries. Fortunately, amidst the chaos, the drivers of the other involved vehicles escaped unscathed and cooperated with authorities at the scene.
