The Folsom Police Department has advised the public to avoid the 100 block of River Ridge Way, where an intense fire and a tense standoff with an armed individual have unfolded. According to an update from the Folsom Police Department's social media post, the fire, which started yesterday afternoon, was under control by 10:30 p.m., but firefighters and officers were expected to remain on scene throughout the night as the investigation continued.
Earlier, a “barricaded subject in the residence who is believed to be armed,” was dealing with police and the Folsom Fire Department, as told by Deidre McAuliff of the FPD to ABC10. Officers responded to a call regarding a suspicious person around 4:30 p.m. before the situation escalated. The Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District also provided support in battling the blaze.
The Sacramento Metropolitan Fire Department reported that their crews had adopted a defensive strategy to prevent the flames from spreading to adjacent houses. This was after a house on River Ridge Way was reported fully engulfed in smoke and flames. Reporter Andres Valle of KCRA observed SWAT's response in the area alongside the firefighting efforts.
Complicating the evening's events, LiveCopter 3 captured footage around 7:35 p.m. that showed a person in a bright reflective vest approaching the house, only to be apprehended by law enforcement and firefighters. The individual, however, was later clarified by officials as unrelated to the armed, barricaded subject inside the residence, as reported by KCRA. The connection of this individual to the property remains unclear.
