Ford Motor Company announced it will move its headquarters to the Henry Ford II World Center, leaving the Glass House, which has been its global headquarters for nearly 70 years. The company said the new space is designed to support its shift toward technology and software. “The future of our industry demands a different kind of space -- one that is more connected, more flexible, and built for the speed of a technology- and software-driven company,” Ford said in a release obtained by ClickOnDetroit.

Ford’s new world headquarters will open in November for employees to work, collaborate, or visit. The project is expected to be fully completed in 2027. Once finished, it will accommodate about 4,000 employees, with plans to place up to 14,000 employees within a 15-minute walk of the building. The facility will feature collaborative workspaces and modern design, as reported by WXYZ.

Ford will replace its Glass House headquarters with a new 2.1 million-square-foot, net-zero energy building at the Henry Ford II World Center, supported by DTE’s MI Green Power program. The new facility will include six Design Studios, a central Design Showroom, and a 64-foot micro-LED screen, and will open for public tours in November. “This 2.1 million-square-foot building isn't just a new address; it's the physical manifestation of our Ford+ plan to lead the electric and digital revolution in automotives,” the company said, as per WXYZ. Ford confirmed the Glass House will be sustainably decommissioned and demolished, adding, “We are working with the City of Dearborn on a plan for how the site can best serve our employees and neighbors, and we will have more to share about those plans later,” as mentioned by ClickOnDetroit
