Former adult film actor Justin Heath Smith, also known by his stage name "Austin Wolf," was handed down a 19-year prison sentence for charges related to child sexual exploitation. Smith, who is 44, was convicted of multiple offenses, including attempting to entice a minor to engage in illegal sexual activity and engaging in a pattern of activity involving prohibited sexual conduct, the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of New York announced.
U.S. District Judge Paul A. Engelmayer, who also oversaw Smith's guilty plea, imposed the sentence. According to court statements and documents, Smith had been repeatedly targeting minors, engaging in and arranging for sexual acts with individuals he believed were underage, including a recorded sexual encounter and other planned abuses that were ultimately intercepted by law enforcement. U.S. Attorney Jay Clayton characterized Smith's actions as "horrible," stating, "He targeted kids as young as seven, and every New Yorker wants him and those like him off our streets for as long as possible and never again near our children," as reported by the U.S. Attorney's Office.
The details of the crimes are disturbing. Smith purportedly met with a 15-year-old and engaged in inappropriate acts while another adult performed oral sex on the minor. Furthermore, he attempted to meet with an individual claiming to have a nine-year-old child in their care for the purpose of sexual abuse. Smith was apprehended by federal authorities before this encounter could take place. After executing a search warrant on Smith's residence, officials discovered he was in possession of a substantial amount of child pornography, with approximately 1,291 files found, some showing extremely young children.
In addition to the prison term, the court sentenced Smith to 10 years of supervised release and imposed a $40,000 fine. The U.S. Attorney's Office commended the investigative efforts of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, which played a pivotal role in bringing Smith to justice. Assistant U.S. Attorney Getzel Berger is credited with managing the prosecution of the case.
The office also issued a call to action for the public: anyone with information concerning child exploitation is urged to contact the FBI. As Smith's disturbing case concludes with a considerable prison sentence, law enforcement continues to be on alert for those who prey on vulnerable children.
