Former Clinton High School Principal Dan Jenkins has been enmeshed in legal controversies since resigning amid a grading scandal last year. According to WVLT, the Anderson County Sheriff's Office reports Jenkins now faces charges for driving under the influence, violating Tennessee's open container law, as well as using his cell phone while driving and reckless endangerment following a head-on collision in May.
Police records state that Jenkins was driving distracted over the center line on Clinch Avenue on May 31, where being involved in a head-on crash with another vehicle. The WBIR adds that Jenkins turned himself in after an Anderson County Grand Jury indictment on several charges related to the incident, and was subsequently released on bond, according to jail records.
The gravity of the situation is compounded as Jenkins was principal during a period where nearly 1,500 grades were altered at Clinton High. His resignation on April 12, 2024, occurred while an intensive examination into the grade changes took place – an inquiry that has seen arrests of other educational staff, including a teacher and guidance counselor, implicating WYSH.
When crossing the Lewallan Bridge in Clinton, Jenkins, according to authorities, was under the influence and had an open container in his vehicle, while the phone, which he was distracted by, caused one individual to be ejected during the crash onto the highway. That person's injuries led to emergency crews initially requesting Lifestar air medical service, though they were later transported via ambulance to the hospital.
Dan Jenkins' fall from high school principal to the center of a criminal indictment starkly reflects the perils entangled in his recent life trajectories and warrants close monitoring as the consequences of his actions take their course.
