More than a year after a troubling incident shook a Northeast retail district, the Metropolitan Police Department has followed through on an investigation leading to an arrest. In June of 2024, a former employee threatened violence against her previous place of work, with her intentions broadcast on social media, sending ripples of anxiety through the community.
According to MPD's announcement, the suspect, identified as 34-year-old Asya White of Southeast, DC, posted a video on a June afternoon that had Fifth District officers on alert. Officers were advised around 4:24 p.m. about the explicit threats made against an establishment on the 2400 block of Market Street, Northeast. It was this reckless announcement that catapulted the situation into a state of high alert.
The apprehension came months later, as the legal gears turned at their own pace. On September 5, 2025, White found herself charged with a serious offense after being arrested pursuant to a DC Superior Court arrest warrant. Of considerable note, she is now facing charges of False Report of a Weapon of Mass Destruction with Specific Intent, a felony that speaks to the severity of the allegations against her.
