Fort Collins is gearing up to mark a special anniversary, one that celebrates its rich agricultural heritage. The Farm at Lee Martinez Park, a staple of the community that has provided a hands-on experience of the city's agricultural roots for four decades, is all set to celebrate its 40th anniversary. The event, open and free to the public, promises a day filled with music, food, and family fun.
The festivities are scheduled to take place on Saturday, September 13, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at The Farm's premises located at 600 N. Sherwood St. Organizers are determined to quickly throw together a variety of activities that include live music, barnyard games, and line dancing. Not to forget, there'll be ample opportunity to mingle with the farm animals. For those whose appetites work up, food trucks will be stationed to serve up local eats.
According to the City of Fort Collins, The Farm has significantly contributed to the community since it opened its doors in 1985. More than just a former dairy farm, it has been a center for education and recreation, nestled snugly along the Cache la Poudre River. It's a place where generations have been coming together, discovering, and experiencing the agrarian way of life that is a vital piece of the city's history.
"For four decades, The Farm has been a place where families and community members come together to experience a hands-on connection with our agricultural heritage," said LeAnn Williams, City of Fort Collins Recreation Director, in a statement released by the City of Fort Collins. There is a strong emphasis on celebrating not just a landmark anniversary but also the collective memories and community spirit fostered by The Farm over the years. Eager to further embrace this spirit, the city has ensured that there is free parking available at The Farm and the Lee Martinez Park parking lot to the east for event attendees.
