The City of Fort Worth is setting the stage for a career-focused future by hosting the first-ever Employment Workshop and Career Fair for post-9/11 veterans in partnership with NextOp, a nonprofit that excels in helping these individuals transition to civilian life through gainful employment. Slated for next Friday, Sept. 26, from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., the event promises to connect veterans with lucrative careers and will take place at the Will Rogers Memorial Center – Stagecoach Room, situated at 3401 W. Lancaster Ave.
As a beacon of hope in the tumultuous sea of job hunting, NextOp has been effective in placing over 5,000 veterans into jobs with decent paychecks averaging $60,000 annually nationwide; and not too long ago, since June 2024, the same organization has been instrumental, helping over 115 North Texas veterans find work, boasting an average salary of $74,000, this according to the official announcement from the City of Fort Worth.
Diverging from the norm of standard job fairs, the organizers are curating an environment of intentional hiring where prospective employers are expected to confer with veteran candidates through structured, meaningful conversations comparable to "speed dating for jobs", creating tangible results with employers encouraged to make immediate hiring decisions or, at the very least, establish pathways to employment. Veterans in attendance, guided by the NextOp program, will be furnished with tailored resume support, interview preparation, and pre-event counseling to ensure they can meet recruiters, hiring managers, and executives who are not merely present but ready to make on-the-spot job offers.
