Fort Worth's take on disaster readiness is taking a hands-on approach with two interactive events this September. In observance of National Preparedness Month, residents and city staff are invited to take active steps in ensuring their household's safety in times of crisis. The activities, aimed at fostering a community wise to the ways of emergency management, are scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 17, and Friday, Sept. 26, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Fort Worth City Hall lobby, located at 100 Fort Worth Trail.
Collaborating with various divisions and councils, including the Transportation & Public Works Stormwater Division and the North Central Texas Council of Governments Emergency Preparedness Division, the Office of Emergency Management is all hands on deck. Running the event, residents can sign up for local alerts and Community Connect, with staff learning about stormwater flood-warning resources. As stated on the City of Fort Worth website, practical lessons on how to devise an emergency plan and emergency kit are on the agenda.
For those who are deaf or hard of hearing, DeafLink has been roped in to ensure the availability of the Accessible Hazard Alert System. Visitors to the events can expect to see interactive displays, and they will also have the chance to grab free preparedness resources and safety giveaways, aiming to complement this year's theme: "Preparedness Starts at Home."
