A Fresno man has received a five-year prison sentence for his role in fentanyl distribution, as U.S. Attorney Eric Grant announced. Ady Perez, who is 26 years old, was judged by U.S. District Judge Jennifer L. Thurston and handed down the sentence for possessing and intending to distribute over 40 grams of the potent opioid.
The case against Perez unfolded when he was apprehended attempting to sell 1,500 fentanyl pills. In his bid to escape law enforcement, Perez collided with a police vehicle, resulting in his immediate arrest. Following the chase, the search of his apartment by authorities led to the discovery of additional illicit substances and firearms. According to court documents released by the U.S. Department of Justice, the confiscated items from Perez's residence included two loaded firearms, a large sum of cash, and more fentanyl and Farmapram pills, which are a form of Benzodiazepine.
The investigation that culminated in Perez's conviction was a collaborative effort between the Fresno Police Department and the Drug Enforcement Administration. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Cody S. Chapple and Arin Heinz spearheaded the prosecution.
