A 52-year-old man, Pierre Richard Plourde, drowned at Lake Clinch in Frostproof on yesterday. Authorities said he was trying to retrieve his drifting boat, according to WFLA. Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd shared details of the incident in a video posted on Facebook.

WTSP reported that Plourde had secured his boat and was with his family under a pavilion before noticing the vessel drifting. He entered the water to retrieve it, went under, and drowned despite rescue attempts by a friend and emergency responders.

Frostproof Fire Rescue and the Polk County Sheriff’s Office marine unit responded and located Plourde’s body in the water. According to Tampa Bay 28, Sheriff Judd stated no foul play is suspected in the incident.
