The crash occurred near the intersection of Lapeer and Silverbell roads in Orion Township. According to FOX 2 Detroit, the accident near a gas station resulted in the garbage truck flipping and materials spilling onto the road, with a smashed white vehicle also involved near a gas station. Debris from the crash lead to the shutdown of Silverbell Road in both directions as cleanup crews worked at the scene. The conditions of the drivers were not initially clear, but police later categorized the incident as a serious injury crash.
The tragic aftermath of the collision was confirmed when a 37-year-old Flint man pronounced dead after the crash. Midmichigannow reported that Trent Edward Evans, the driver of the waste truck, succumbed to his injuries at a local hospital. The accident occurred as a Jeep Grand Cherokee, driven by a teenager, was exiting a driveway and struck the waste truck, which subsequently flipped onto its side and collided with a utility pole. The Sheriff's Office of Oakland County mentioned the teenager involved was unharmed in the collision, with both drivers having been wearing their seatbelts at the time of the accident.
