Garland's cultural season is upon us, as the Garland Cultural Arts announces its upcoming Dia de Los Muertos Juried Art Exhibit. The exhibit aims to showcase the vibrant traditions of Hispanic culture through 2D artwork submissions that embody the imagery and spirit of Dia de Los Muertos. Artists 18 years or older, regardless of their experience level, are invited to submit their works through October 7, for a chance to be displayed at the Granville Arts Center.
The first date to submit entries has been set for August 28, following through until that midnight deadline on October 7, which, by the way, is the kind of date that sneaks up on you, so don't procrastinate, folks. For those fortunate to seize a spot in the exhibit, notifications of acceptance will ding in your inbox or buzz in your texts by October 10. From there, the selected pieces must be professionally framed or matted and ready for drop-off on October 14-15, with the art making its grand public debut from October 17 to November 9 – a festive journey for both artist and audience.
According to the City of Garland, entrants can submit up to three artworks across a diverse spectrum of 2D mediums, including various forms of painting, drawing, printmaking, and collage. The maximum width stands firm at 36 inches, frame or mat included – not an inch more. Each piece will be scrutinized for selection by the discerning eyes of the Garland Cultural Arts Commission, which, no doubt, knows a thing or two about weaving the aesthetics of cultural art into the community tapestry.
