The Gastonia Police Department reported more than 2,500 property damage crimes in 2024. To address this issue, the department is using its Real-Time Crime Center, which recently helped solve a case involving more than $3,000 in damages.
According to the Gastonia Police Department Facebook post, using Flock technology, which captures and analyzes vehicle information, officers identified a suspect and the vehicle involved. The suspect was tracked and later confessed.
Community participation is also part of the effort. Residents can register their cameras with the department to provide footage that may help solve crimes. A link to the free camera registration service is available on the same Facebook post.
