In anticipation of America's 250th Anniversary, the Georgia Department of Agriculture is rolling out a unique tribute to showcase the lives and legacy of veteran farmers across the state. Georgia Agriculture Commissioner Tyler J Harper recently unveiled the Georgia Grown Veterans Spotlight, an initiative set to intertwine with the nationwide America250 celebrations scheduled for July 4, 2026. This program aims to duly recognize the more than 7,000 individuals who have coupled military service with agricultural labor, embodying a dual dedication to the country.
The spotlight will manifest through both photo and video submissions from veteran farmers, destined to be displayed on the digital video boards within the Georgia Grown building at the Georgia National Fair. "We are incredibly proud to highlight the service, sacrifice, and contributions of our state's veteran farmers to Georgia's #1 industry and our nation," Harper said, as reported by agr.georgia.gov. Harper continued, imploring Georgia veterans actively engaged in agriculture to actively take part in sharing their narratives as a component of the America250 reflection and festivity.
Submissions are not only to be adorned within the fair’s edifice but are also set to grace the Georgia Department of Agriculture's social media channels. With the fair slated for October, the submission window remains narrow, urging interested Georgia producer veterans to respond promptly. The department advises that individuals complete the online submission form by the September 26th deadline, ensuring their stories are integrated into this statewide tribute.
