A 51-year-old caretaker was shot and killed Friday afternoon outside her father's home in DeKalb County, according to her grieving family. The woman had reportedly gone to the residence in her caregiving role when she was gunned down, leaving relatives searching for answers as police continue investigating the killing.
The family shared their account with FOX 5 Atlanta, identifying the victim as a 51-year-old woman who worked as a caretaker for her father. According to the family, she was shot just outside his DeKalb County home on Friday. Details on a possible suspect, motive, or arrest have not been made public.
A Second Deadly Shooting in Days for DeKalb County
The caretaker's death comes just two days after DeKalb County police responded to a fatal shooting on Hidden Creek Drive, where 20-year-old Jared Asquet allegedly shot and killed his 23-year-old brother, Devon Asquet, in what authorities described as a domestic incident. It is not the first time a caretaker has been caught up in gun violence tied to a family setting in the county. In January, a family gathering on Leisure Woods Drive to mourn a relative who had died of cancer turned violent when an uninvited visitor opened fire, wounding a visiting caretaker in both arms and grazing her chin, according to a report from FOX 5 Atlanta.

The Friday shooting also follows an overnight wave of violence earlier in August, when three separate shootings across DeKalb County left two people dead and another critically injured as investigators worked multiple crime scenes at once.
