Gilbert's desert gem is set for another facelift, with officials rolling out concept plans for the second phase of Desert Sky Park. This expansion includes a broad list of facilities aimed at keeping the community game, splash, and play-ready. Making a splash in these new plans is a splash pad with inclusive play features, ensuring access for all abilities.

The proposed layout, as reported by the Town of Gilbert, spots a series of multi-use fields – five, to be exact – alongside two playgrounds, one specially designed with inclusive play features. Sports enthusiasts will be pleased with the addition of eight pickleball courts, complete with a shade pavilion, two sand volleyball courts with a shade canopy, a tennis court, and a basketball court. Not forgetting a nod to the pet lovers, there will also be a dog run.

Of course, convenience is key, and the plans reflect this with the addition of two new entry points and expanded parking for ease of access. For comfort and practicality, two restroom facilities are part of the design. In a statement obtained by the Town of Gilbert, Kylie Sorensen, Gilbert Parks and Recreation Parks Manager, mentioned that community input was vital in shaping these plans. "Through the community engagement process, we heard from residents about the amenities that matter most to them," said Sorensen.

Groundbreaking for these new developments is slated for later this year, as Desert Sky Park continues to burgeon into a more comprehensive community hub. The Town of Gilbert encourages residents to keep abreast of the project by following Gilbert Parks and Recreation on social media, visiting the project webpage, and signing up for the newsletter. Currently, the park proudly hosts a lake, ninja warrior course, four multi-use fields, ramadas, and restrooms at its 6624 S Power Rd. location.
