Governor Greg Abbott’s office has added a $20,000 reward for information leading to an arrest in the 2023 stabbing death of 39-year-old Austin Kanuch. The amount matches the reward already offered by Crime Stoppers of Houston, bringing the total to $40,000.
On the morning of September 22, 2023, Kanuch was fatally stabbed while sleeping in his home on the 8600 block of Greenleaf Lake Drive. The Harris County Sheriff’s Office said the attack appeared to be targeted, but the motive is unknown. Investigators found an "edged weapon" at the scene and confirmed surveillance video showing a thin, young suspect arriving at the home on a mountain bike, as reported by Click2Houston.
Authorities say that despite several tips over the past two years, no solid leads or arrests have been made. The victim’s mother, Celene Miller, said, “Harold and I, and our friends, will never, ever give up,” as mentioned by ABC13. A reward is being offered for information submitted through the Texas Crime Stoppers hotline or online, with anonymity guaranteed by law. The victim’s parents described him as having a vibrant personality and a presence that lit up the room.
