In a move affirming the state's commitment to bolstering its maritime infrastructure, Governor Greg Abbott has made a new appointment to the Calhoun Port Authority. Amy Blanchett, whose background bridges corporate communications and community service, steps into a strategic role that will likely shape the port's direction leading up to the 2027 elections. The announcement came via an official statement from the Governor's office yesterday, September 24.
Blanchett, currently a senior communications representative at Formosa Plastics Corporation, Texas, carries an extensive resume geared towards business and community relations — a valuable asset for an entity like the Calhoun Port Authority, which operates at the intersection of commerce and community. Her term, as described by the governor's release, is to last until the candidate elected to office of the at-large commissioner in May 2027 qualifies to serve. It's a window of time where Blanchett's influence can leave a mark on the port's strategic development.
Hailing from Point Comfort, Blanchett’s influence in local economic and civic spheres is well-documented. Her involvement ranges from her directorship at the Jackson County Chamber of Commerce & Agriculture to her membership in the Rotary Club of Port Lavaca. Her extensive board service further includes the Sportsmen’s for Charity Club and United Way of Calhoun County, as well as her role in the Downtown Waterfront Master Plan Visioning Committee for the City of Port Lavaca.
This appointment signals the Governor's confidence in Blanchett's ability to align the Port Authority's objectives with broader economic goals. As an alumna of Texas A&M University, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in International Studies, Blanchett brings a global perspective to the table that could serve as an asset in navigating the complex waters of port and trade logistics.
