A late Friday night collision on State Highway 33 has left Guthrie High School students and their choir director with injuries after a head-on crash following an Oklahoma State football game. According to News9, the students were returning from a fundraising event where they worked at a concessions stand. A Guthrie Public Schools SUV, carrying six students and the choir director, was struck on State Highway 33 and Coyle Road.
Three of the students and the choir director, identified as Bill Perring, were taken to local hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries, reports KOCO. Two students were released from the hospital that night, while the other students were able to go home with their parents from the scene of the accident.
KFOR noted that the head-on collision occurred when a pickup truck couldn't stop in time as a car turned left onto Coyle Road. The pickup swerved to avoid the turning vehicle and subsequently crashed into the school’s SUV.
Guthrie Public Schools shared images from the crash scene, confirming that the accident involved two other vehicles in addition to the school's SUV. Despite the serious nature of the crash, Guthrie Superintendent Dr. Mike Simpson noted, as told to News9, "the outcome could have been much worse, given the severity of the crash." The Oklahoma Highway Patrol is still investigating the cause of the crash.
