Residents and visitors along parts of Florida's coastline are being advised of hazardous weather conditions. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Jacksonville has issued a High Surf Advisory, a High Rip Current Risk, and a Wind Advisory. The High Surf Advisory is in effect through early Tuesday, and the High Rip Current Risk continues into Wednesday morning.
The advisories cover areas including Coastal Duval, Flagler, and Northeast and Southeast Coastal St. Johns Counties. The National Weather Service reported large breaking waves of 5 to 7 feet and dangerous rip currents, warning of hazardous swimming and surfing conditions as well as localized beach erosion.
Safety guidance includes avoiding swimming in dangerous surf and, if caught in a rip current, relaxing and floating rather than attempting to swim against it.
Winds from the northeast are expected at 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 40 mph, reaching inland to Jacksonville and Saint Augustine. The conditions may create driving difficulties for high-profile vehicles, move unsecured objects, and cause tree limbs to fall, potentially leading to power outages.
These conditions will continue into midweek, with chances of showers and thunderstorms varying across the region. The National Weather Service Jacksonville website provides the latest updates and detailed forecasts.
