The Healey-Driscoll administration has awarded $3 million in grants to support improved transportation options within Massachusetts' workforce sector. The funding will back 19 projects across the state, implemented by 13 Transportation Management Associations (TMAs), one TMA membership group, and one consulting firm. According to Mass.gov, the grants will support initiatives such as shuttle operations, infrastructure improvements at bus stops, and the expansion of ferry services, among other efforts.

Secretary and CEO of Transportation Monica Tibbits-Nutt emphasized the importance of these projects in improving access not only to employment opportunities but also to education and other essential services. "Our investments in community transportation are about connecting people to jobs, schools, and services today and into the future," Tibbits-Nutt told Mass.gov. These funds are part of the second year of the MassDOT’s TMA Grant Program, which was inaugurated in Fiscal Year 2025 and aims at decreasing single occupancy vehicles, lowering emissions, and expanding individual mobility.

TMAs play a critical role in fostering better transportation frameworks for geographic areas by uniting local businesses, government entities, and various stakeholders. This blend of interests is directed toward sculpting a transportation landscape that is resilient, dependable, and readily accessible to the public. By promoting alternative travel methods such as biking, carpooling, and walking, as well as providing essential services that include shared shuttle programs and carpool matching initiatives, TMAs stand at the center of transitioning transport modalities away from the solitary commuter experience.
