Hillsborough County’s Board of County Commissioners recognized Hispanic Heritage Month at its meeting on Wednesday. A proclamation was presented to entrepreneur and CEO Sandra Atiles-Tyrell in honor of the Hispanic community, which makes up more than a quarter of the county’s population.
According to Hillsborough County’s official news release, Hispanic Heritage Month has been observed nationally since 1988. More than 65 million Hispanic Americans live in the United States, including about 6 million in Florida and over 420,000 in Hillsborough County.
Sandra Atiles-Tyrell thanked the Board for the proclamation and highlighted the importance of Hispanic culture, traditions, and contributions to society.
The U.S. Census Bureau reports that Hispanic-owned businesses play a significant role in local commerce. The Board’s proclamation reflects the ongoing recognition of the community’s impact on Hillsborough County.
